What do you guys think if you heard about "Wine"? Some kind of French words or something? It's kind of perfect drinks to be paired with Steak or other Western dish.
Have you wondering to pair our Indonesian food with a glass of wine? Hmm I think only a few people did.
Just few weeks ago I got an email from TeSaTe collaborating with Sababay Winery for Wine Tasting Event, the highlights of this event was to introducing wine that can be paired with Indonesian cuisine. TeSaTe is one of the leading Indonesian restaurant with high quality standard for serving Indonesian dish with authentic taste. My first impression for this event was so interesting and really excited to explore more about these culinary experience.
Honestly this is my first time to combine Indonesian food with wine, even more I did not quite understand about wine so its have to be fun!
The collaboration between TeSaTe Restaurant with Sababay Winery is to introducing the wine pairing culture to TeSaTe's customers. The signature TeSaTes dishes paired with Indonesian wine by Sababay.
Let's find out first about Sababay Winery, this is an Indonesian wine brand that contribute to producing 100% from Indonesian wine. It already won several International competition such as WSA
Wine Challenge Singapore 2014, CWSA 2014 and HKIWSC 2014.
The history of Sababay names came from the "Saba" bay (Teluk Saba) in Gianyar - Bali and also because the winery took place in Saba bay. This winery begins by the concern of local grape farmers condition and then trying to help them. They also collaborating with the college students and conducted a study to strive the local grape farmers. Now they have 2 French wine maker to make grape into high quality wine with international standard.
Mr. Gupta as Marketing Directory of Sababay Winery also explained about how the Balinese grape taste, he said it was too sour. Then he continued that 3 years ago a kilo of grape was only valued Rp 500,- but now it already Rp 5000/kilo. The farmers already has a decent life, nice!
It was proved with Indonesian high climate we also could producing wine from our own country and Sababay Winery already distribute to almost all around Indonesia. Easily to find, especially when you are in Jakarta.
This unique experience can be taste with TeSaTe's dish that suit to pared with Sababay Wine. Mr. Gupta said that wine could increasing the flavor of food, balancing our taste and clean our palate as well. Many Indonesian love and easily to liking Sababay wine, some of them speak up with interesting opinion like: The chemistry between the same origin (from Indonesia) for is one of big factor why they were match each other and not to forget the chemicals content inside to affecting.
Let's start with all the dishes.
Moscato D'Bali
Giving a refreshingly
sweet, balanced by lime acidity and ripe peach sweetness taste. It could be paired with Kerapu
Bakar Jimbaran, Rujak Pengantin Salad, Gule Sengkel, Tahu Udang Berontak, Sate
Padang and Serabi Solo.
This is my type of wine, light and sweet taste just suit to my palate. As a newbie, I consider myself to choose the light typical wine. It does taste amazing when it paired with Tahu Udang Berontak.
Tahu Udang Berontak
Savoury mouthful of succulent prawn and mushroom, encased in a crips warm tofu envelope
How to enjoy it? Just mix all of it and take a sip to give you the full experience. By what I heard before, this wine was a best seller and already receive many awards, definitely a recommended one.
Serabi Solo
Traditional
pancake, delicate and flavourful, a popular snack icon of Central Java
White Velvet (Right)
It taste fruitier but has a dry taste as well, still refreshing with lime, grapefruit and apple flavor, light to medium bodied. Could be paired with Cumi
Telur Bakar, Ikan Bakar Dabu-dabu and Sate Padang.
Sate Padang
Tender
beef cheek and tongue served with aromatic turmeric sauce
Ludisia
Giving you sweet reminiscence of dates, cherry candy, soft and luscious taste. Type of easy to drink wine. Could be paired with Sate Ayam Ponorogo, Sate Sapi Maranggi, Rendang, Tahu Udang Berontak and Serabi Solo.
Sate Ayam Ponorogo
Juicy
chicken in sweet marinade, served with buttery peanut sauce
Serabi Solo
Reserve Red
Notes of ripe
dark cherry, smoky, a touch of vanilla, round texture, soft tannin and has medium
bodied. It perfect match with Sate
Sapi Makassar and Sate Kambing. For me, it was too strong. Bold taste and aroma. This type of red wine was supposed to combined with meat or lamb.
Sate Sapi Makasar
Exotic
combination of aromatic beef tenderloin with mouthwatering, tangy sour
starfruit sauce
A whole new experience for me to have taste and learn about wine. Never expect that Indonesian food pairing with wine could bring such an awesome taste like this. Overall, it has unique taste while it increasing the flavor as well. Nothing odd about it and it's clearly suit to our Indonesian food.
